Thank you to those who attended the AGM on 11 February. Great to see so many of you – it was well attended.
During the AGM we heard about all facets of the club and some key updates on the courts, flood lights, finances, the structure of the club and the new coaching set up (Welcome David & Lily – more to follow on this!).
There are major initiatives ongoing which will be transformational for the club – a really exciting time to be part of Headstone Tennis Club (HTC).
Remember, HTC is a member’s run Club with an elected Committee. The running of The Club is dependent on the hard work and efforts of its members, and all of this is done on a voluntary basis. The Committee welcomes new members and any support you can provide to help with various initiatives is most welcome.
The AGM saw some major changes to the Committee and we would like to recognise some huge contributions:
Terry Baldwin, our chairman is sadly stepping down. Having joined the Club in 1972 he has contributed over 45 years of service to the Committee at HTC through various roles. As Chairman, he has guided the Committee and Club with grace, integrity and great leadership. Prior to this roll Terry was the Club’s Ground Secretary.
Praf Shah, our Treasurer is also stepping down, having joined the Club in 1976 he has been Treasurer since 2006. We are grateful for our long-standing Treasurer, whose dedication and steady stewardship have strengthened the standing of the Club. Praf has led HTC through many material financial commitments that the Club has undertaken.
Anthony Lahiffe is stepping down as Head Coach. Anthony joined the Club as a Junior in 1972. Growing up and developing his tennis skills at HTC resulted in him having a successful tennis career winning many titles and playing premier division tennis with the men’s team. Anthony turned his hand to coaching and as a fully qualified Coach, has led the Coaching team for 25 years. Anthony is credited for creating Headstone’s hugely successful Junior Programme and bringing many Juniors through the ranks of the Club. Anthony has been an integral part of the Club and has led the coaching at HTC with great skill and passion.
Malcolm Ginger will soon be stepping down as Ground Secretary. Malcolm has been a committee member for over 50 years. He stood for election in 1969 as a young intermediate player and since then has been Bar Chair, Treasurer and Ground Secretary. He has and continues to play a major part in the Club’s progress and in its financial stability.
We would like to thank Malcolm, Terry, Praf and Anthony for their huge contributions to HTC and the legacy they have left. Whilst they are stepping down from their roles, they are and will always be part of the future of HTC.
A final mention to our new Chairman Julia Ginger who has been a committee member for over 50 years and will continue to do so in her new role. Julia’s long service to the Club and tennis has been recognised by the LTA who have awarded her the Middlesex President’s Award. We are delighted that she will be continuing as a Committee Member.
